I agree with you. The driverless car pedestrian strike is getting so much attention because it's new tech. I guess it's also getting attention because sone people think self driving tech is meant to be flawless instead of simply better than a human driver, on average.
It’s getting attention because Uber are a known for cutting corners, and it’s very likely their shitty code killed a person.
You don’t get to hand wave away a death with the justification that the tech is better “on average”. The tech gets a pass when they demonstrate that they took reasonable steps to protect the public.
That means not shipping half baked product with crossed fingers so they can try and increase their stock price.
What makes you think we arent? I too, have a disdain for bad drivers, and even more for companies who pay bad drivers to be on the road. Real, or automated.
