Washing machines are considerably lower quality than 20-30 years ago. New washing machines have issues with "scrud" and other weird moldy build ups. Not sure if this is because everything is designed for lower water usage leading to the soap not being filtered out enough or what but I know some of the issues I have seen with my modern appliances simply didn't ever happen with much older machines. It seems like the only thing that improved was looks and marketing.

I have a new washing machine and it just can't seem to get rid of soap in the gasket.

I researched machines and ended up with an LG and I have to run it for double rinse cycles. It's an HE machine and when I use HE detergent, the issue is even worse so now I just use a tiny splash of regular detergent. It's so bizarre to me that this is an issue for a modern machine. Every washer and dryer I had before this was an old school analog machine and they never had issues.
