Ente: Self Host the Google Photos Alternative and Own Your Privacy (developer-friendly.blog)

Very happy with using Immich[1] for self-hosting a Google Photos alternative. Feels good to not push all those private memories to big tech.

What would be the main differences to Ente Photos? The on-by-default encryption?

I built an immich instance, and ported my whole family over to it and its gone so smoothly I became a paid member.

Immich is right up there with blender and krita etc etc.

Ditto! Immich development has also been pretty steady

+1 for Immich. It was easy to setup and they aren't pushing any kind of subscription bullshit.

For those who have used both, how does this compare with Memories[0] -- it was still open in one of my tabs :)

It's great, but it doesn't have its own application for uploads, and the PhotoSync one they tell you to use is much less useful than say Immich's one.

Curious if you've tried either Ente or Immich? Would be interested in your take on them from your perspective

Own your privacy on AWS ? Ain't that funny.

Tried Ente a few months ago. It was a pain to self host. Went to Immich and its much easier. I'm on the fence for moving off of a hosted option as both of these don't seem to have great backup/DR solutions.

I would love to see how it looks. Can you add screenshots to the site?

There are screenshots on ente.io [0] and their GitHub repo [1]
